Single correct+4 / -1Answer matches NTA’s final key

The value of the integral ∫02x(x2+x+1)(x+1)(x4+x2+1) dx\displaystyle\int_0^2 \frac{\sqrt{x(x^2 + x + 1)}}{\left(\sqrt{x + 1}\right)\left(\sqrt{x^4 + x^2 + 1}\right)}\,dx is equal to:

Choose one

Solution

Solution

Simplify. x4+x2+1=(x2+x+1)(x2−x+1)x^4 + x^2 + 1 = (x^2 + x + 1)(x^2 - x + 1), so the factor x2+x+1\sqrt{x^2 + x + 1} cancels and

x(x+1)(x2−x+1)=xx3+1.\frac{\sqrt{x}}{\sqrt{(x + 1)(x^2 - x + 1)}} = \frac{\sqrt x}{\sqrt{x^3 + 1}}.

Substitute u=x3/2u = x^{3/2}. Then du=32x dxdu = \frac32\sqrt x\,dx, and x3=u2x^3 = u^2; the limits become 00 and 222\sqrt2:

∫02x dxx3+1=23∫022duu2+1=23[ln⁡(u+u2+1)]022=23ln⁡(22+3).\int_0^2 \frac{\sqrt x\,dx}{\sqrt{x^3 + 1}} = \frac23 \int_0^{2\sqrt2} \frac{du}{\sqrt{u^2 + 1}} = \frac23 \Big[\ln\big(u + \sqrt{u^2 + 1}\big)\Big]_0^{2\sqrt2} = \frac23 \ln\big(2\sqrt2 + 3\big).

Answer: 23log⁡e(3+22)\frac23 \log_e(3 + 2\sqrt2).
